HC Deb 15 November 1948 vol 458 c33
46. Mr. Skeffington-Lodge

asked the Prime Minister whether, in respect of those livings in the Church of England at present in his gift, he will consult with all interested parties with the object of making better use of many of the large parsonage houses attached to them.

The Prime Minister

It has been the practice for many years past in dealing with parsonage houses in Crown livings which fall within the sphere of the First Lord of the Treasury to facilitate the policy of disposal or modernisation in cases in which they are over-large or otherwise unsuitable, and there is full consultation with the interested parties, namely, the incumbent, the diocesan authorities and the Church Commissioners in these negotiations. At the present moment the problem, which is, of course, of general application to all patrons, is under urgent discussion both by the Church Commissioners and in the Church Assembly.
