HC Deb 15 November 1948 vol 458 cc41-2
62. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that there is a shortage of currants, raisins and other ingredients required for Christmas puddings in the City of Aberdeen; and if he will increase supplies in sufficient time to enable Christmas to be celebrated.

Dr. Summerskill

We are buying all the currants and sultanas we can afford in the areas open to us, but the supplies obtainable are not sufficient to meet consumer demand. Aberdeen is no worse served than other parts of the country. The Christmas supplies for housewives. which were released on 10th October, should by now be reaching Aberdeen. if they are not already there.
