HC Deb 11 November 1948 vol 457 c1709
29. Sir R. Young

asked the Minister of Education whether anything is being done to comply with the request made to him by the Penketh parish meeting that, to avoid road accidents to school children, the playing field of the Penketh Council School should be opened for the use of school children after school hours and during holidays; and to what extent the children of the said school are permitted to use the playing held after school hours.

Mr. Tomlinson

This is a matter for the Lancashire local education authority. I am, however, advised that this playing field is already used to excess for organised school activities.

Sir R. Young

Is there no chance of protecting the lives of young people in places like this where the roads are very busy on special days between Liverpool and Manchester?

Mr. Tomlinson

Yes, but I do not think it is for this school field to do that. I think additional provision is needed for the purpose.
