HC Deb 11 November 1948 vol 457 c1704
23. Mr. Bowden

asked the Minister of Health on what principles his Department decides the amount of pocket money paid to disability pensioners who are patients in mental hospitals; and what is the amount so allowed.

Mr. Bevan

Arrangements agreed with the Ministry of Pensions provide that hospital management committees shall determine the amount. This is done in consultation with the Medical Superintendent, who advises whether a patient is capable of appreciating and benefiting by pocket money, and whether he can be entrusted personally to spend it. The maximum allowed is 10s. a week.
