§ 23. Mr. Bowdenasked the Minister of Health on what principles his Department decides the amount of pocket money paid to disability pensioners who are patients in mental hospitals; and what is the amount so allowed.
§ Mr. BevanArrangements agreed with the Ministry of Pensions provide that hospital management committees shall determine the amount. This is done in consultation with the Medical Superintendent, who advises whether a patient is capable of appreciating and benefiting by pocket money, and whether he can be entrusted personally to spend it. The maximum allowed is 10s. a week.
