§ 26. Air-Commodore Harveyasked the Secretary of State for Air how many R.A.F. officers have resigned their commissions since 1st January, 1947; and what are their ranks.
§ Mr. A. HendersonSince 1st January, 1947, 117 officers have retired at their own request or have resigned or been called upon to resign their commissions. Their ranks are as follow: Eight officers of air rank, eight group captains, 16 wing-commanders, 24 squadron leaders, 46 flight lieutenants and 15 flying officers.
§ Air-Commodore HarveyAm I correct in assuming that those who have offered their resignations have not been included in the figures given, and will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that dissatisfaction with rates of pay and the lack of married quarters is compelling many young and very able officers to throw in their hands?
§ Mr. HendersonI am bound to say that, in a few individual cases, what the hon. and gallant Member has said is correct, but that, so far as my information goes, his suggestion applies only to a very small proportion of the number to which my answer refers.
