HC Deb 01 November 1948 vol 457 c496
23. Mr. M. Lindsay

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the present international situation, he will now reconsider His Majesty's Government's policy towards Spain.

26. Major Guy Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs when he intends to review the question of British relations with Spain.

Mr. Mayhew

No change has been or is contemplated.

Mr. Lindsay

Is it not utterly inconsistent and sheer humbug that we should not keep an ambassador in Madrid because Spain is a totalitarian country, while we keep ambassadors in other totalitarian countries?

Mr. Mayhew

As I have said many a time, Spain has been outlawed by the United Nations and we are perfectly consistent in applying that policy.

Major Lloyd

Does His Majesty's Government propose to do anything at all to see that this stupid vendetta ceases?
