HC Deb 01 November 1948 vol 457 cc512-3
45. Professor Savory

asked the Prime Minister whether he will make a statement on the conversations which took place between himself, the Dominion Prime Ministers and representatives of Eire at Chequers on Sunday, 17th October, 1948.

The Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee)

I have nothing to add at present to what I said in the Debate on 26th October and in my statement to the House on 28th October.

Professor Savory

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether the Law Officers of the Crown will be consulted with regard to the Agreement of December, 1921, registered by the Free State as a Treaty at Geneva and of which the contractual obligations still enjoy full validity, having been specifically reserved by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council?

The Prime Minister

That seems to be rather a detailed question which ought to be put on the Order Paper. I can assure the hon. Gentleman that all these matters will be considered with our legal advisers.

Sir Ronald Ross

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that the best method of dispersing the Commonwealth is to grant its privileges to those who do not belong to it?
