§ 69. Mr. Turtonasked the Minister of Food what was the total membership of the British Food Mission to the U.S.A. on 1st January, 1948, and on 1st July, 1948.
§ Mr. StracheyThe British Food Mission in the United States of America on 1st January, 1948, consisted of 46 persons. The Mission was absorbed in the British Supply Office in Washington on 1st April, 1948, at which date it consisted of 41 persons.
§ Mr. TurtonSurely, the conditions have changed very considerably since 1946, when this Mission was set up, and will the Minister now consider cutting down the number of officials employed in Washington on the purchase of food?
§ Mr. StracheyI could hardly consider cutting down this Mission as it has ceased to exist.
