asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has yet appointed the proposed committee of inquiry into the film industry.

Mr. H. Wilson

I intend to appoint the Committee of Inquiry on film distribution and exhibition in time for its work to begin next autumn. In the first instance, however, I propose to appoint a smaller Committee to examine the desirability or otherwise of State ownership or State management of an additional film studio.

In view of the importance of this matter to the independent producer could the appointment of this Committee be expedited?

There are many other Questions to be dealt with first, including the appointment of the Films Council. The most important thing for the independent producer is the settlement of the financial position at present facing him.
