HC Deb 13 May 1948 vol 450 cc2265-6
20. Sir W. Wakefield

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware of the inadequate facilities for baths and washhouses in east St. Marylebone and, in view of the most unsatisfactory position existing, will he now reconsider his decision to withhold approval for the suitable accommodation desired to be erected jointly by the borough councils of St. Marylebone and St. Pancras in Whitfield Street, W.1.

Mr. Bevan

The scheme must be deferred for the present but I shall be prepared to reconsider it as soon as the general restrictions on this kind of building work can be relaxed.

Sir W. Wakefield

Will the Minister make every effort to expedite these facilities? My constituents are utterly fed up in continuing to be fellow travellers with the Minister of Fuel and Power.

Mr. Bevan

This work cannot all be started at once, otherwise none of it will he finished.
