asked the Secretary of State for War when the new Director of the Territorial Army will start work.

The Director, Territorial Army and Cadets, is expected to return to this country by 24th May, after which he will take over his new duties.

Will the right hon. Gentleman reconsider the desirability of having the Director of the Territorial Army as a permanent or temporary member of the Army Council?

The Question was when he should start work, not whether he should be a member of the Army Council.

Does the Minister's reply mean that the Director would start work on 25th May?

What I said was that he was returning to this country by 24th May, after which he will be taking over his duties.
