HC Deb 11 May 1948 vol 450 c1957
45. Colonel J. R. H. Hutchison

asked the Prime Minister whether he is now prepared to call an Economic and Trade Conference with each of the Dominions.

The Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee)

The hon. and gallant Member will be aware from answers which I gave in the House on 22nd and 28th April, of the practical difficulties at the present time of assembling a Conference of all Commonwealth Governments on the highest level. We are, of course, in close and continuous contact with other Commonwealth Governments on economic and trade matters through all the normal channels.

Colonel Hutchison

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this limited promise will give very considerable satisfaction? When this conference is called, will he see that the subject matter includes a plan for co-ordinated production throughout the Commonwealth without which the Marshall Plan will have only partial value?

The Prime Minister

I should like to see that Question on the Paper.
