HC Deb 06 May 1948 vol 450 cc1453-4
47. Mr. Low

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that out of 48 ex-Service students reading for the B.Sc. Degree of the University of London at the College of Estate Management, nine are in receipt of Ministry of Education grants and 39 in receipt of Ministry of Labour grants, Sand that the Ministry of Education grants are approximately £50 per year higher; and whether he will increase the Ministry of Labour grants with effect from the beginning of the course in order to avoid unfairness.

50. Mrs. Leah Manning

asked the Minister of Labour why ex-Service men studying at the College of Estate Management and reading for a science degree for the University of London, do not qualify for rates of allowance equivalent to those administered by the Ministry of Education.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour (Mr. Ness Edwards)

My right hon. Friend is aware of this anomaly and is considering with his right hon. Friend the Minister of Education whether responsibility for the 39 students in receipt of Ministry of Labour grants should not be transferred to his Department.
