§ 46. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyreasked the Prime Minister whether the official statements made by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in Sweden and Denmark recommending the Bancor system represent the policy of His Majesty's Government.
§ The Prime MinisterI assume that the hon. and gallant Member is referring to an interview recently published in the Swedish and Danish Press, in which my right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer discussed certain currency difficulties now existing in Europe. No such statement of policy as is suggested was made and the reference to the Bancor system was merely illustrative of a principle.
§ Colonel Crosthwaite-EyreIn considering this matter and before any decision such as to re-align European currencies is taken, as has been adumbrated at Brussels, will the Prime Minister give the House a chance to discuss it?
§ The Prime MinisterAny question in regard to discussions in the House had better be put to my right hon. Friend the Lord President of the Council.
