HC Deb 04 May 1948 vol 450 cc1085-6
40. Mr. Lipson

asked the Minister of National Insurance if his regulations provide that ex-Service men in receipt of a 100 per cent. disability pension must pay the National Insurance contribution and what additional benefits will they receive in return.

Mr. Steele

The liability of these ex-Service men to pay contributions will depend upon regulations now before the National Insurance Advisory Committee in draft. As regards benefits, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given on this subject to the hon. Member for Spen Valley (Mr. Sharp) on 23rd April, a copy of which I am sending him.

Mr. Lipson

Is my hon. Friend aware that many of these men, whose incomes are very small, feel that they will get no additional benefits and yet will be called upon to make a contribution? Can he give an assurance that they will get a benefit commensurate with their insurance contributions?

Mr. Steele

This is a point which is before the National Insurance Advisory Committee, and my right hon. Friend is awaiting its report.
