§ 56. Mr. Jannerasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how the output of scientific manpower in this country at the present time compares with the estimates made and targets set by the Barlow Committee; and how the estimates with regard to the output of such manpower during the next five years now compare with the Barlow Committee figures.
§ Mr. JayThe Barlow Committee recommended the doubling of the prewar out- 3344 put of graduates in Science and Technology as soon as possible. On the best estimate available this increase will be realised within the next two years and is likely to be maintained thereafter. Expansion beyond that level depends upon the rate at which additional accommodation can be provided at the Universities.
