HC Deb 24 March 1948 vol 448 cc2994-5
22. Mr. Asterley Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will arrange that copies of the leading British daily and weekly papers, particularly "The Times," are available regularly to officers of the Control Commission, Germany.

The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Ernest Bevin)

Over 1,000 daily newspapers and some weekly papers are supplied officially to the Control Commission including 335 copies of "The Times" newspaper. In addition, private arrangements with newsagents in this country are made from Germany on behalf of individual officers of the Commission. New arrangements were instituted last month which it is hoped will be more satisfactory than in the past.
