HC Deb 18 March 1948 vol 448 c2275
43. Mr. Anthony Greenwood

asked the Minister of Health what representations he has received on the subject of London's water supplies; and whether he is satisfied that all necessary steps are being taken.

The Minister of Health (Mr. Aneurin Bevan)

I have received no recent representations, but have been in close contact with the Metropolitan Water Board for many months regarding their problems, and the means of overcoming them. I am satisfied that everything possible is being done to avert future shortages. The public can, however, do much in this direction by ensuring that, while water is used in a rational manner for all purposes for which it is needed, there is no waste.

Mr. Berry

Is my right hon. Friend aware that, provided labour and materials were available, considerably more storage capacity could speedily be provided.

Mr. Bevan

That is one of the limitations under which we are working at the present time.
