asked the President of the Board of Trade why a bobbin of white cotton sewing thread, costing 8½d., cannot be included in a gift parcel sent from this country to Australia; and whether he will relax the present regulations.

Cotton yarn and thread were excluded from the gift scheme in order to safeguard essential supplies for the home market. I will, however, see whether it is administratively practicable to make exceptions for small consignments.
