Lords Amendment: In page 1, line 14, leave out "it applies" and insert "they apply."

The Parliamentary and Financial Secretary to the Admiralty (Mr. John Dugdale)

I beg to move, "That this House doth agree with the Lords in the said Amendment."

This is a purely drafting Amendment. Their Lordships have displayed a rather better knowledge of the English language than we did, and they found that it is better to say "X and Y do" than "X and Y does," and have therefore substituted the plural for the singular.
