HC Deb 09 March 1948 vol 448 c1000
35. Mr. Linstead

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the maximum amount of sterling which a private individual may transfer to South Africa; and how many British subjects were permitted to remove their private assets to South Africa during 1947.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir Stafford Cripps)

South Africa is one of the scheduled territories, and in consequence there are no limits, and no permission is required.
