HC Deb 09 March 1948 vol 448 cc1007-8
52. Mr. Leonard

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that the members of the Scottish Film Producers' Association will be unable to commence their projected production of Scottish subjects because of the inadequacy of the licences issued by his Department to cover essential requirements in equipment and studio extension; and when he proposes to remedy these deficiencies.

Mr. Belcher

I presume that my hon. Friend is referring to the film studio occupied in Glasgow by Kays-Scottish Films Limited. No request for additional equipment for these premises has so far been received, and no building licence has been issued. But the Board of Trade Controller for Scotland is in touch with representatives of the company and, in view of the present need for reducing capital expenditure, they have now agreed to consider a further modification of their proposals. An application for a building licence to carry out such a modified scheme is now awaited.
