HC Deb 08 March 1948 vol 448 cc791-2
60. Mr. Mott-Radclyffe

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that tractor trailer tyres 800 x 19 and 800 x 20 are practically impossible to obtain; that these tyres may only be purchased for new vehicles; and what steps he is taking to ensure that an adequate supply of tractor trailer tyres of these dimensions are available for old trailers which are still serviceable.

Mr. T. Williams

These tyres are for horse-drawn vehicles. Supplies are not yet sufficient to meet all demands, but the tyre manufacturers are fully aware of this and are rapidly increasing production. Output in 1947 showed a large increase over 1946, and present indications are that 1948 will show a further very considerable increase. The greater part of the total production, in both 1946 and 1947, was used for replacement purposes.

Mr. Mott-Radclyffe

Is the Minister certain that these sizes of tyres are solely for horse-drawn vehicles?

Mr. Williams

Yes, Sir.
