HC Deb 05 March 1948 vol 448 c710
The Solicitor-General for Scotland

I beg to move, in page 51, line 47, to leave out paragraph 13.

It was intended to emphasise the breach with the past by abolishing the old public assistance committees as soon as the new committees were appointed, but it was found that the present public assistance committees have certain residual duties in no way connected with public' assistance, which they must carry on until 5th July.

Lieut.-Colonel Elliot

It is wise that this iconoclasm on the part of the Administration should be modified in this respect. I am sure, merely for what one might call fundamental reasons, that to sweep away all the structure might easily involve the authorities concerned in some difficulty. I am glad that the Administration have seen fit to hold their hand in this respect.

Amendment agreed to.
