§ 61. Major Bruceasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what directions have been issued by his Department to the Bank of England under Section 4 (r) of the Bank of England Act, 1946, or otherwise, and by the Bank of England to bankers under Section 4 (3) of the Bank of England Act, 1946, or otherwise, to ensure that the granting of credit facilities to various classes of customers is in conformity with the necessity of providing full and adequate credit facilities to essential industries, trades, vocations and agriculture, and of restricting credit facilities to non-essential enterprises; whether he will state the dates on which such directions were issued; and in what form.
§ Mr. JayNo occasion has arisen for the issue of any such direction. As my right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer stated in the House on 2nd December last, the banks have been asked from time to time to conform with the general policy of the Government as regards capital issues control, and he has every reason to be satisfied with their co-operation.
