HC Deb 02 March 1948 vol 448 c210
62. Major Legge-Bourke

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if, in view of the blocking of Palestine's sterling balances, he is now in a position to make a further statement about the export of money raised in this country to provide arms for the Zionists in Palestine.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

The transfer of money to non-scheduled territories requires Treasury permission. Permission to transfer money raised in this country would only be given on condition that the Treasury were satisfied that the funds would be administered by a reputable charitable organisation, and that they would be used for bona fide charitable purposes. The provision of arms would not fall within this category.
