HC Deb 02 March 1948 vol 448 c209
59. Colonel Gomme-Duncan

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he will now consider increasing the fees payable to clerks of local pension committees, in view of the altered value of the pound sterling.

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. Glenvil Hall)

Local pension committees will cease to exist when the National Assistance Bill takes effect next July, and I cannot see my way to review the remuneration of their clerks for the brief remaining period of their existence.

Colonel Gomme-Duncan

Whether the period is brief or otherwise, the injustice still remains. Does the right hon. Gentleman realise that this fee was fixed in 1908? In view of the fact that there are so many increases in wages and salaries, is this not inequitable?
