HC Deb 02 March 1948 vol 448 c203
46. Mr. Emrys Roberts

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why it is impracticable for his Department to keep separate Customs and Inland Revenue figures for Wales.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir Stafford Cripps)

The present collections take no account of the Welsh border and a re-arrangement is out of the question for the time being on man-power grounds.

Mr. Roberts

Is the right hon. and learned Gentleman aware that before the war separate figures were kept for Scotland and England, and cannot this practice be restored with separate figures for Wales as well as Scotland?

Sir S. Cripps

Scotland is not Wales.
