HC Deb 01 March 1948 vol 448 c30
61. Mr. Dumpleton

asked the Minister of Agriculture what arrangements for inter-departmental co-operation exist between the Timber Control and the Forestry Commission to ensure that the granting of licences for felling by the former is succeeded by and reated to the promotion of schemes of afforestation by the latter.

Mr. T. Williams

There is close consultation between the Timber Control and the Forestry Commission about the larger parcels of standing timber licensed for felling.

Mr. Dumpleton

Is my right hon. Friend aware that there is real concern among local planning authorities in the county of Hertford about the inroads being made into the woodlands, and would he arrange with the Forestry Commission to consult them?

Mr. Williams

As from 1st March, 1948, a revised arrangement comes into force whereby applications for licences to fell 25,00o cubic feet and over are to be referred to the Forestry Commission. That will, of course, place the Forestry Commission in a much better position than in the past, since they will be aware of those areas which require reafforestation.
