HC Deb 28 June 1948 vol 452 c1837
55. Mr. Orr-Ewing

asked the Minister of Agriculture why work on the River Kenn Drainage Scheme has not yet begun.

Mr. T. Williams

Certain questions relating to bridges over the river had to be settled before these works could be approved. These matters have been cleared in the last day or two, and approval is now being given.

Mr. Orr-Ewing

Is the Minister aware that the very long delay spread over many months has made the promises of the Minister look rather stupid? Will he see that similar schemes in the future are pressed forward with greater energy?

Mr. Williams

I cannot agree with the observations of the hon. Gentleman that the engineers who are responsible are stupid.
