Mr. Peter Freemanasked the Minister of Health the names of the members of the South Wales and Monmouthshire Teaching Hospitals Board of Management, other than that of the chairman of the Monmouthshire County Council, who are representatives of Newport; and if he will make additional nominations from the County Borough.
§ Mr. BevanIt is not intended that Members should represent any particular authority as such, and there is no one from Newport on the board. I will send my hon. Friend a copy of the Order.
§ Mr. FreemanIn view of the fact that there is a Teaching Hospital for Monmouthshire as well as Wales as a whole and that there is no representative for Monmouthshire except the Chairman of the County Council in his official capacity, would he consider making some additional appointment, and in particular for the County Borough of Newport?
§ Mr. BevanI have said they are not representatives on the board. There will be many boroughs in the county and many towns where they have not individuals on this board because it is not intended to make the board so large as to include all the many councils.
