HC Deb 24 June 1948 vol 452 c1546
34. Brigadier Rayner

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the housing difficulties which are being experienced at Newton Abbot, Devonshire, because of the closing down of the railway engine shed at Mortonhampstead and the transferring of operations to Newton Abbot; and what co-operation exists between his Department and British Railways with regard to housing problems of this kind.

Mr. Bevan

I have received no representations on this particular case. As regards the second part of the Question, I have made arrangements for local housing authorities to be consulted, where appropriate, about problems of this kind.

Brigadier Rayner

Does the Minister appreciate that this is a case of a small branch line, the personnel of which have lived at one end for periods ranging up to 30 years, who now suddenly find that they are all transferred to the other end where there are no houses available? In difficult cases of this kind will the Minister do what he can to get together with the other responsible authorities.

Mr. Bevan

I have received no representations about this case.
