Colonel Ponsonbyasked the President of the Board of Trade whether the intention of the United States Department of Agriculture to subsidise a large quantity of fire-cured and dark air-cured tobacco from the 1946 crop to the extent of one-third of the fair and reasonable f.a.s. price has been notified to signatories of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, in accordance with Art. XVI of that Agreement; and whether he has discussed with Dominion or Colonial Governments the effects on Dominion and Colonial producers of these types of tobacco.
