42. Mr. Dumpleton

asked the Secretary of State for War how many Roumanian Volksdeutsche remain in this country as prisoners of war; and whether, as these men have no homes in Germany and cannot return to Roumania, he will arrange for them to be offered civilian status for work in this country.

Mr. Shinwell

Fifty-five remain in this country as prisoners of war. They have all applied to stay here as civilians. Thirty-eight have been accepted and the applications of the rest are still under consideration.
