§ 63. Sir J. Mellorasked the Minister of Health what total amount was paid in relief to strikers out of public funds or local rates during the recent unofficial strikes at the docks; and whether relief in kind was also provided.
§ The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Health (Mr. John Edwards)Relief under the Poor Law could not legally be paid to the strikers themselves. £939 14s. 6d. was paid to strikers' families from local rates in addition to relief in kind to the value of £82 2s. No other public funds were involved.
