HC Deb 08 July 1948 vol 453 cc580-1
56. Brigadier Rayner

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what degree of priority is being given at the present time to the provision of electricity supplies to farms and farm labourers' cottages in outlying parts of the country.

Mr. Robens

Connection of supplies to farms and farm workers' cottages likely to assist increased food production was given very high priority in the Electricity Commissioners' circular of 18th February, 1948, which laid down priorities for new non-industrial development. The detailed application of these principles is, of course, a matter for the area electricity board concerned.

Sir H. Morris-Jones

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that, so far as the rural areas in Wales are concerned, there is virtually no work being done at all in regard to the provision of electricity supplies and will he see to this matter?

Mr. Robens

Yes, Sir.

Mr. Collins

Is the hon. Member aware that one difficulty is that where mains exist in the villages the local authorities are unable to get loan sanction for the wiring, and is it possible for him to take the matter up with the right hon. Gentleman the Minister of Health to see if he can get over that difficulty?

Mr. Robens

If there are particular problems for particular areas the area boards will be glad to look at them.
