HC Deb 08 July 1948 vol 453 c570
46. Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of Labour why certain building trade operatives, who have been discharged on account of lack of work, have been authorised by the officers of employment exchanges to continue to draw their wages through the employment exchanges without necessarily doing any constructive work.

The Minister of Labour (Mr. Isaacs)

I have no knowledge of any such arrangements. If the hon. Member will let me have details of the cases he has in mind I will have inquiries made.

Mr. Bossom

Can the right hon. Gentleman give us an assurance that he will not countenance action of this sort?

Mr. Isaacs

I can give an assurance that if the facts are such as have been stated I will take action, but I have no information and I do not think this exists at all.
