HC Deb 06 July 1948 vol 453 c192
26. Mr. Keeling

asked the Minister of Town and Country Planning if he has sanctioned the London County Council's plan for a Westminster Precinct.

Mr. King

No plan for a Westminster Precinct has been submitted for approval to my right hon. Friend by the London County Council. The County of London plan included proposals for diverting traffic away from Broad Sanctuary and Abingdon Street to a new route further west, but these have not been adopted in detail by the Council. The whole question is still under examination.

Mr. Keeling

Will the Parliamentary Secretary at least say whether his Minister thinks that it is a good idea?

Mr. King

No, Sir. It is for the London County Council to express a view first.

Mr. Henry Strauss

Will the Minister and dais colleague carefully study the extremely interesting article which appeared in the "Architectural Review" on this subject, and consider it most sympathetically, since it has a very wide measure of support?

Mr. King

I will certainly study the article.
