HC Deb 06 July 1948 vol 453 c204
62. Mr. Piratin

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that, since he has permitted the export of Utility clothes, it is impossible to find, in the shops, any better quality men's Utility clothes; and whether he will take steps to improve these supplies.

Mr. Bottomley (Secretary for Overseas Trade)

No, Sir. The quantity of men's clothing exported is but a very small proportion of the total, and I have no reason to suppose that the permission recently given to export utility clothing has made any material difference to the quantity available for the home market.

Mr. Piratin

Does not the hon. Member agree it is a fact, as stated in the Question, that it is difficult to get good Utility cloth in the shape of men's wear, and will he look into the matter and see that these supplies are available?

Mr. Bottomley

I cannot accept that statement.
