HC Deb 06 July 1948 vol 453 c206
68. Mr. Mainwaring

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will make a statement upon the causes that have led to the final closing of the Grenfell factory at Llwynypia; and if there is likelihood of an alternative occupancy at an early date.

Mr. Bottomley

The main causes of difficulty in keeping this factory working were given in the answer to a Question by my hon. Friend on 10th June. I understand that my right hon. Friend the Minister of Supply is arranging for supplies of wire to be made available to the factory in quantities which should be sufficient to avert the closing. The second part of the Question does not, therefore, arise.

Mr. Mainwaring

Are we to assume, therefore, that the provision of a factory engaging about 17 or 19 men for a period of a few months is to be regarded as a serious endeavour to deal with the unemployment situation and provide employment for these disabled miners?
