HC Deb 05 July 1948 vol 453 cc29-30
59. Mr. Dye

asked the Minister of Agriculture what is the total acreage under cultivation in the Stanford Battle Area since this year; and the acreage under the different crops.

Mr. G. Brown

Three thousand one hundred and eighty-seven acres of the Stanford battle area are now under cultivation, and I am circulating the separate acreage figures in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. Dye

In view of the high standard of cultivation by the farmers in this particular area, and the splendid prospects for the crops, will my hon. Friend see that at an early date they are given the chance to continue for next year the same kind of cultivation that they are doing for this year?

Mr. Brown

That is a different question altogether.

The acreages under the different crops are as follow: Oats, 130 acres; barley, 2,123 acres; rye, 517 acres; potatoes, 100 acres; lucerne, 90 acres; sugar beet, 127 acres; peas, 90 acres; and mustard, 10 acres.
