HC Deb 05 July 1948 vol 453 cc4-5
13. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs why there is no effective participation of Germans in the policy and operation of North-West German Radio beyond the normal existence of a German committee that rarely meets and has no powers; and why a broadcaster who was dismissed for political misbehaviour was allowed to broadcast again under a false name.

Mr. McNeil

A German Board of Governors for the North-West German Broadcasting Institution was appointed in March, 1948. It meets monthly and I am assured that the members of the Board and the senior members of the German staff are entirely satisfied with the powers they exercise. If my hon. Friend will give me more details of the incident mentioned in the last part of his Question, I will gladly make further inquiries and communicate with him direct.

Mr. Sorensen

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman why he has not replied to the last part of my Question?

Mr. McNeil

I am unable to reply to the last part of the Question because I have not sufficient detail to identify the man about whom these allegations are made.

Mr. Sorensen

Then why does not the right hon. Gentleman say so?

Mr. McNeil

I am very sorry; it must be my dreadful Scots accent, but I thought I did say so.
