HC Deb 29 January 1948 vol 446 cc1175-6
12. Mr. Bowden

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will take steps to see that adequate supplies of cigarettes and tobacco are allocated to the canteens and local shopkeepers to meet the needs of the men employed at the Freemans Meadows, Leicester, in the erection of additional electrical generating plant.

Mr. H. Wilson

There is no statutory control over the distribution of cigarettes and tobacco, but I understand that the manufacturers are prepared, when necessary, to provide additional supplies to meet needs resulting from temporary increases in employment. Local shopkeepers and canteen operators should make direct application to them for such supplies.
