HC Deb 28 January 1948 vol 446 cc1015-6
73. Brigadier Head

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that the Palestine Government has refused to deliver up possession of certain copies of a document exhibited at the summary of evidence taken against Captain R. A. Farran on a charge of murder on which he was acquitted, and which the court which tried him ruled was a privileged document; and what action he proposes to take in the matter.

Mr. Creech Jones

Yes, Sir. I am in communication with the Government of Palestine on this subject.

Brigadier Head

Is the Minister aware that considerable delay has already occurred in this matter, and will be undertake to ensure that the Palestine Government act in the same way as all other Ministries concerned and see that they destroy this document immediately which is ruled as privileged?

Mr. Creech Jones

I think the hon. and gallant Gentleman will appreciate that this is a matter of considerable legal complexity, and we will speed it up as soon as we can.
