HC Deb 28 January 1948 vol 446 c1015
70. Commander Noble

asked the Minister of Food whether he will give consideration to the granting of extra milk to old age pensioners.

Dr. Summerskill

I am very sorry, but milk supplies are not good enough for this.

Commander Noble

Would the hon. Lady say if it might be possible to manipulate the existing allowances in some way so as to make the allowance which I have suggested?

Dr. Summerskill

I should like to do it, but I must remind the hon. and gallant Member that there are 6½ million individuals in this country entitled to old age pensions, and, therefore, if we gave this extra allocation it would mean cutting down other priority classes.
