HC Deb 26 January 1948 vol 446 c657
54. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether in view of the dislike of horticulturists and market gardeners to the recommendations of the Lucas Committee on horticultural marketing, he will give an assurance that he will not seek to implement them by introduction of legislation during 1948.

Mr. T. Williams

I cannot yet add to the replies I gave on 8th December, to the hon. Member for Bridgwater (Mr. Bartlett) and the hon. Member for Thirsk and Malton (Mr. Turton).

Mr. De la Bère

Does not the right hon. Gentleman appreciate that if the recommendations of the Lucas Committee were implemented it would disturb the primary producers throughout the country? Have not the Government promised to do everything to encourage them? Why tinker about with this matter? It is monstrous.

Mr. Williams

No, I do not recognise anything of the kind.

Mr. De la Bère

This is getting more monstrous as it goes on.
