HC Deb 22 January 1948 vol 446 c361
29. Mr. Skeffington-Lodge

asked the President of the Board of Trade since when and for what reasons the bulk importation of all literature from Eire is prohibited; and whether in the interests of good relations between the United Kingdom and Southern Ireland he will consider adjusting the existing regulations.

Mr. H. Wilson

My hon. Friend appears to have been misinformed, as licences to a considerable value for the import of books and periodicals from Eire have been granted during 1947 and are still being issued. Import of books and other printed matter from Eire during the first eleven months of 1947 were valued at over £267,000 compared with about £100,000 in the same period of 1938.
