HC Deb 22 January 1948 vol 446 cc370-1
44. Commander Noble

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power why it is necessary to obtain a permit to run motor cars on fuel other than petrol.

Mr. Gaitskell

The Control of Motor Fuel Order, 1947, covers only petrol and other hydro-carbon oils. I am proposing to extend the Order to include Propane and Butane—also sold under the names Calor Gas, Buta Gas and Propagas—because the latter are used for cooking and lighting in rural areas. No permit is at present required for the use of other fuels.

Mr. Charles Williams

Will the right hon. Gentleman also permit the use of windmills for public purposes?
