HC Deb 21 January 1948 vol 446 cc208-9
58. Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

asked the Minister of Food if the consignment of snoek brought to this country in the s.s. "Novelist" has yet been examined by his Department.

Dr. Summerskill

Samples from this cargo have been inspected. The detailed report is not yet available, but I am glad to say that the preliminary indications are that this consignment shows an improvement over previous shipments.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

In view of the rather modified enthusiasm expressed in the Parliamentary Secretary's answer, may I take it that the full report will be available to hon. Members when it is ready?

Dr. Summerskill

We are expecting the analyst's report in a week or two, when I shall be only too pleased to let the hon. Member know the result.

Lieut.-Colonel Geoffrey Clifton-Brown

Can the Minister say whether it is true that the tin for the containers in which to bring over this unwanted fish is sent out from this country?

Dr. Summerskill

I must ask the hon. and gallant Gentleman to put down that question.
