§ 4. Mr. Palmerasked the Minister of National Insurance if, when making regulations under the provisions of the National Insurance Act, he will give consideration to reducing the weekly contribution required from those who fall into the unemployed class because of injuries received in the service of the country and, in particular, pensioners of the 1914–18 war.
§ The Minister of National Insurance (Mr. James Griffiths)A reduction in contributions would carry with it a corresponding reduction in benefits, and I doubt whether action on the lines suggested would be in the best interests of the insured persons concerned. I should add that regulations will provide that persons normally in the employed class, including the disabled, will be entitled to credits of contributions for weeks of proved unemployment.
